If email messages are an indivisible part of your electronic correspondence with business partners or relatives, it would be better if you used an email account with your own domain name and an email service provider that supports the IMAP and POP3 email protocols, rather than relying on a web-based service that involves restrictions as to the size of the attachments. In this way, you will be able to access your mailboxes on any desktop or mobile device using any software – Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, and so forth. With the IMAP protocol, you’ll be able to view the email messages locally at your end, but they will be on the server at all times, while with the POP3 protocol, all email messages will be downloaded to the device, unless you choose a copy to be left on the server. On top of that, you will be able to take advantage of many other handy options – calendars, contact groups, etc., not to mention that in case there is a brief predicament with your Internet service, you can still view your emails since they will be on your desktop or handheld device.
